Our mail server supports ManageSieve.

This is a protocol for getting the mail server to perform actions on your incomming mail on your behalf.  Previously, this was done using the portal http://sieve.omni.net.au/

This was nice, but it was separate.  Wouldn't it be great if it could be done from your normal webmail access?

IT CAN!!!  Here's how:

  1. Log into Webmail
  2. Open the 'Settings' (It's in the top right corner)
  3. You will notice that there is a 'Filters' button in the left pane - click it
  4. Click the '+' button in the next pane to add filters.
  5. Don't forget to enable filter set.

This is really useful for automatically sorting, forwarding and deleting messages automatically without having to configure your desktops, tablets, laptops, phones and any other device which happens to read your email.

If you want to set up a 'Vacation' message, add a new rule and call it 'Vacation' or something else meaningful.  In the filter settings, select 'all messages'.  Then your action should be 'Out of Office'.  Now you can type in a suitable vacation message.  The server will keep track of who's seen your vacation message.
